Sivers Semiconductors, Intel and WiSig Networks in partnership to launch the world’s first 5G millimeter-wave FR2 stand alone CPE solution
About the new product
The product will be a Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) operating in 5G FR2 (mmWave) range between 24.25-29.5 GHz. This includes the n257, n258, and n261 bands.
The product can also be utilized as an integrated backhaul terminal in Sub-6 GHz 5G RANs.
This unique solution is based on the Intel Agilex platform, Sivers RF and antenna technology, and full-stack software developed by WiSig.
Sivers RF module based on 2 TRB2801 RFICs.
32 paths, dual polarisation
High Level Description
The CPE includes Intel agilex FPGA which will run the L1, L2, and L3 software developed by Wisig Networks. Sivers semiconductors will provide the analog RFFE and the antenna module to facilitate communication in 5G FR2 (24.25-29.5 GHz). An AFE is used to upconvert/downconvert the baseband signal to/from a Low IF signal (3.5-5 GHz).
Technical Deep Dive Description
Intel’s FPGA fabric along with the hard processor system runs the L1, L2, and L3 software of the 3GPP 5G protocol stack. JESD204C protocol is used to transfer the data between the FPGA and an AFE. The AFE upconverts/downcoverts the signal to/from Low-IF (3.5-5GHz). The analog signal is then fed to the RF antenna module. The RF module supports 2 data streams (2×2 MIMO) as it can handle dual polarization.
